Revolutionising ferry food the sustainable way
Sustainability initiatives come at a cost, right? Well, not all of them. By making use of a forecasting tool and cooking fresh on order, our Food & Beverage team together with the regional chefs have managed to significantly reduce food waste and cut down on food costs – as well as increasing the quality and taste of the dishes prepared for our guests. The chefs’ professional pride has also increased. “It’s a win-win-win-win situation”, says Rikard Persson, Group Food & Beverage Manager at Stena Line.

Future-proofing our fleet by converting our Superfast ferries
To be a leader in sustainability, we need to invest in new ships as well as modifying our existing tonnage. As part of Stena Line’s sustainable journey, we are now starting a project to retrofit our Superfast VII and VIII vessels so that they are ready to run on alternative energy sources such as e-methanol and take shore power electricity.

Introducing the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) to the shipping sector in 2024 – the impact on Stena Line and its customers
With a goal of net zero emissions by year 2050, the European Union is expanding the use of ETS – Emissions Trading System – to include the shipping industry. As from 1 January 2024, ferry operators will start paying for carbon emission and Stena Line is fully committed to support EU’s ambitions with carbon neutral energy sources and sustainable solutions across all operations.
