When asked to describe his leadership journey in one word, Jarosław answers without hesitation – humility.
“When I got my first stripes, I thought I knew everything. Within four weeks I realised I knew nothing,” he says with a smile.

That lesson has stayed with him. Today, humility shapes how he leads – by staying curious, listening to others and learning continuously. For Jarosław, leadership is not about having all the answers. It is about creating the right conditions for people to succeed.
He credits much of his success to the team around him.
“When people feel trusted and motivated, they focus on solutions, not problems. That’s what creates great service for our customers.”
Leading by example
Jarosław says the most challenging part of leadership is not operations – it is people. Difficult conversations about performance or behaviour can be tough, especially early on. Over time, he learned that being a good leader does not mean being everyone’s friend.
“Respect comes from consistency, fairness and knowledge,” he says.
His leadership style is practical and visible. He prefers to be present with his team rather than managing from a distance. By showing how to approach customers and think about sales in real situations, he helps others build confidence and capability.
For him, sales is not about pressure. It is about understanding customer needs and offering something genuinely useful. That mindset supports a strong culture – and strong culture drives results.
Experience that shaped his leadership
Before joining Stena Line, Jarosław spent more than ten years at sea with leading cruise companies in the Caribbean. He worked his way up step by step, learning every part of onboard operations.
Later, he chose to move closer to family. A chance meeting during a business visit led to a new opportunity – and the start of a long-term career with Stena Line.
Outside work, he finds balance in fishing, playing the drums and taking time to reflect. He also believes humour is essential in leadership.
“A good sense of humour helps you stay calm and keep perspective, even under pressure.”
Preparation is another key part of his approach. Years of managing complex operations have taught him that careful planning often decides success before the work even begins.
Advice to his younger self
If he could give one piece of advice to his younger self, it would be simple – stay humble, listen more and keep learning.
“You have to believe in what you learn and apply it immediately. Don’t think you know better – because you don’t.”
Jarosław Łomża’s story shows that great leadership is built over time – through experience, consistency and a genuine commitment to people.
