The purpose-built vessel is already transforming our Belfast–Heysham route with greater capacity, smarter technology, and greener operations.
At 147 metres in length, the Stena Futura operates 12 sailings per week, providing 2,800 lane metres of much-needed additional freight capacity on the busy route which connects local hauliers directly into the key North of England road freight network.
Engineered for resilience, the vessel features bespoke marine technology tailored for the unique tidal conditions at Heysham.
Her sister ship, Stena Connecta, is currently under construction and scheduled to enter service on the Belfast–Heysham route in early 2026. Together, the two vessels will boost freight capacity by 40% on the route, responding to growing customer demand for services between Northern Ireland and Great Britain.
Both hybrid vessels are equipped to operate on methanol fuel and will play a central role in Stena Line’s sustainability journey. They also come with built-in technologies that can utilise battery propulsion and shore power when available.
With advanced hybrid capabilities and increased freight space, the Stena Futura marks a bold step forward in delivering smarter, greener, and more efficient shipping solutions.
