Shippax praised the vessel for setting new standards with its multi-hybrid capability and ability to operate on battery, biofuel and methanol it will help move the Stena Line and the maritime industry closer to reducing carbon emissions.

Importantly, the award comes in the context of strong competition from across the global ferry and shipping industry. With many innovative projects being recognised, this makes the achievement even more meaningful.

A major milestone for the Irish Sea
Stena Futura, was the first of the two hybrid ships to enter service on the Belfast – Heysham route in September 2025, closely followed by her sister vessel Stena Connecta.
Trade Director, Irish Sea North, Paul Grant, added: “Stena Futura and Stena Connecta represent a major step forward for our Belfast–Heysham route. These vessels are already delivering a positive impact on this vital trade corridor by significantly increasing freight capacity to meet growing customer demand. The investment strengthens the resilience of our Irish Sea network and supports our long-term sustainability ambitions. We are very proud of the ships and their crew and are delighted that Stena Futura has been recognised at the Shippax Awards.”
