Our approach

At Stena Line, we take responsibility for how we serve our customers — ensuring that every journey, shipment, and interaction contributes to a more sustainable future. Every year, we welcome millions of passengers and freight customers on board, many of whom are increasingly conscious of how their choices impact the environment. We share that awareness — and our goal is to make sustainable choices simple, transparent, and accessible for everyone who travels or ships with us. By providing our customers with responsible options, we reduce our collective environmental footprint and strengthen long-term loyalty. Our ambition is to be the sustainable choice, not through words, but through real actions that create value and make a difference at every touchpoint.

Our actions

For our freight customers, we are working to reduce emissions and improve efficiency across our operations. On selected routes, we now offer insetting options, enabling our freight partners to actively contribute to emission reductions within our own value chain.

For our travellers, we are developing initiatives that make it easier to make conscious and sustainable choices when travelling with us. This includes the gradual introduction of insetting opportunities on selected routes, giving passengers the chance to directly support carbon reduction measures connected to their journey.

Onboard our vessels, we continue to improve the sustainability of our offering by reducing single-use plastics and packaging, and by introducing more sustainable meal options and responsibly sourced products in our shops and restaurants. We are also reducing the amount of food waste onboard, for example through our “Cook Fresh on Order” initiative, and lowering our paper consumption through the use of single-dispense systems for hygiene and cleaning materials across our fleet.

We are continuously working to advance new initiatives and review our operations to identify further opportunities for improvement, keeping sustainability embedded in our daily operations and long-term strategy.
