Port Manager/Harbour Master - £68,000 - £80,000
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Port Manager with Harbour Master duties, to oversee safe and efficient operations at our Loch Ryan port.
In this critical role, you will foster strong relationships with vessels and customers, manage check-in and check-out processes, and collaborate with Fleet operations to optimise ship-to-shore activities. You'll also take on key Harbour Master responsibilities, ensuring compliance with marine safety regulations. Driving continuous improvement, promoting a proactive safety culture, and overseeing incident reporting and claims will be central to the role. Some of your key responsibilities:
- Oversee all operational aspects of Port, Freight, and Passenger activities.
- Direct and manage port operations through effective communication with colleagues, passengers, and external bodies such as Government Agencies, Police, Health and Safety, and Security authorities.
- Manage resource allocation and monitor expenditure, coordinating with local HR as needed.
- Ensure port operations, including ship loading/unloading, comply with Stena Line
- Safety Management Systems, health and safety legislation, and government security regulations.
- Optimise port activities to achieve operational KPIs and cost efficiency.
- Develop and maintain a functional, efficient organisational structure to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Motivate and develop the operations team to maintain high performance standards.
- Represent the company in dealings with port authorities and key customers.
- Oversee terminal development projects in collaboration with Port Authorities.
- Lead and implement development and safety projects.
- Provide agency services as required.
- Ensure proper incident investigations and damage prevention measures are in place.
- Manage marine services, including tugboats and pilots, and handle all pilotage matters.
- Ensure Harbour Master statutory competence is maintained within the port.
- Oversee the maintenance of port infrastructure, including terminal areas, quays, ramps, berths, and gangways.
- Ensure bathymetry, surveying, and dredging requirements are met for the port.
- Comply with the Port Marine Safety Code in accordance with the Port of Loch Ryan’s Safety Management System.
- Lead port employees associated with the UK Port Harbour Authority.
- Ensure Harbour Revision Orders are applied for when required, facilitating development works and changes to port powers.
- Ensure post-Brexit regulatory compliance from a port perspective.

Requirements:
- Master’s ticket is essential - Master's Unlimited CoC (II/2)
- Background in transport, logistics, shipping, or related
- Strong operational leadership skills
- Budget management.
- Prior experience in auditing procedures
- Knowledge of: Working environment – local/national laws and regulations, IMDG / Dangerous goods, International Port and Ship Security Code, MCA Oil Spill response, H&S Management systems, Working Knowledge of relevant international standards relating to Environmental, Health and Safety and Quality
- Full UK Driving license
