Accommodation Refurbishment Technician
As an Accommodation Refurbishment Technician, you are responsible for carrying out interior refurbishment, repair, and maintenance work within accommodation, public, and crew areas on board Stena Line vessels.
The role focuses on carpentry, fitting, and interior finishing activities, supporting both planned refurbishment projects and ongoing repair needs during vessel operation and scheduled refits.
You are part of the Fleet Operations refurbishment team and report to the Accommodation Refurbishment Lead, working closely with onboard departments, Safety & Security, and external suppliers to ensure refurbishment work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high‑quality standard, in line with company policies and maritime regulations.
You will be working with multiple vendors, suppliers, and partners, collaborating with internal departments, including Safety & Security and other operational stakeholders.
More about the role:
- This role focuses on interior accommodation, public, and crew area structures and finishes.
- The technician is not responsible for carrying out certified electrical, piping, or HVAC system work.
- Qualified specialists perform system work; this role supports by removing, reinstating, and finishing interior structures related to that work.
- Assignments may include:
- Planned refurbishment and upgrade projects
- Fixing damaged, faulty, or incorrectly installed components
- Maintaining and repairing interiors affected by everyday use and vessel operation
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Perform installation, repair, refurbishment, and maintenance of interior fixtures, fittings, and furnishings in accommodation, public, and crew areas onboard vessels.
- Build, repair, and refurbish interior structures including:
- Cabinets, doors, flooring, bulkheads, ceilings, wet units, galleys, and fixed furniture.
- Carry out repairs involving:
- Carpets, tiles, ceiling systems, interior panels, and light steelwork.
- Be able to remove and reinstall ceilings, bulkheads, and panels to provide access for certified trades (e.g. electrical, piping, HVAC), ensuring correct reinstatement and finish after access work is completed.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with:
- Company procedures and policies
- International maritime regulations
- Safety, security, and environmental requirements.
- Safely handle, use, and maintain tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring proper storage and condition onboard.
- Keep the Accommodation Refurbishment Lead informed of:
- Work progress
- Technical or quality issues
- Delays, risks, or scope changes
- Safety concerns or incidents.
- Collaborate effectively with:
- Onboard crews and operational departments
- Safety & Security teams
- External vendors and suppliers supporting refurbishment activities.
- Maintain a safe and well‑organized working environment, particularly when working in:
- Restricted or confined spaces
- Operational vessels
- Passenger‑facing public areas.

Qualifications:
- Appropriate certifications as required by maritime regulations and company standards.
- Strong technical understanding of carpentry, woodwork, general maintenance, and repair practices.
- Previous experience in a similar technical role onboard passenger vessels.
- Proven experience as a fitter working on interior installations for cruise ships, yachts, or comparable marine refurbishment projects.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- High attention to detail and strong craftsmanship standards.
- Strong problem‑solving abilities and adaptability in a shipboard environment.
- Effective communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to all relevant procedures and regulations.
Working Conditions
- The role requires regular travel and time onboard vessels, depending on fleet and project needs.
- Work may involve short vessel visits or extended onboard periods during refurbishment or refit phases.
- Stena Line will support required training and maritime documentation where needed.
